Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
Hi world,
Today we are talking about Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover!
This book is about Sydney who sits on the balcony at 8 o’clock every day and waits for Ridge who plays self-composed songs on his guitar. When Ridge tells her that her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend, Sydney leaves her old life and now helps Ridge to write songs. In return, she is allowed to live in his flat. Over time, it becomes clear that both have feelings for each other. Ridge is with Maggie who is pretty, likeable, smart and funny. It will always be difficult for them to suppress their feelings. But Ridge has a disease, he’s deaf. One day Sydney finds Maggie unconscious on the floor and she finds out that Ridge has kept something secret to her.
I think it’s admirable how talented Ridge is. Since he is actually deaf, it would have to be almost impossible to play guitar. I also find it fascinating how Sydney reacted when she learned he was deaf. You learn a lot from this book: A lot of people get loud and speak at a snail’s pace because they don’t really know it and don’t ask. I don’t think that everything should be accepted in this way, but that we should also question things. It doesn’t mean when you’re deaf that you can’t understand anything. Most can read lip and sign language.
If someone asked me which part of the book I find most beautiful, I would answer: “The end.” Then again you would say, “That’s for sure.” Because in the end everything is dissolved in the books and there is a happy ending. But it has nothing to do with that. I thought it was beautiful when Ridge gave her the concert and played songs that mainly were about Sydney. Since he has a history, he no longer speaks. But because he can play, he didn’t have to use words. For at that moment when he was playing, she understood the whole thing without words, because they were superfluous. Do you now understand what I mean? I found it very admirable that they communicated through an instrument and that makes this moment the best moments in this book!
